ROY MAURER
JANUARY 24, 2010
Yoga and Meditation Workshop
Sunday 12:30 - 4:30 pm
$50, registration required. All levels.
This workshop combines the Insight or Mindfulness
Meditation practice of the Vipassana Buddhist tradition with
Hatha Yoga.
Mindfulness Meditation cultivates deeper levels of awareness
through focusing attention on the arising and passing away
of sense experience in the present moment: taste, touch,
smell, sound, sight, (and thought). Strengthening
concentration and awareness of bodily sensations –
especially including breath -- is very beneficial in
deepening awareness of the experience of the body and mind
in yoga postures.
Traditional Vipassana Mindfulness retreats alternate periods
of sitting and slow walking throughout the day. This
workshop will similarly alternate periods of sitting and
slow, gentle yoga. The intent of the workshop is to build a
continuity of deeper awareness, one that flows seamlessly
from a quiet sitting posture to slow movement in yoga
postures and back to sitting.
The workshop is designed for practice at all levels and will
include sufficient guided instruction for beginners of
meditation and/or yoga with no prior experience. The
atmosphere is relaxed and informal while at the same time
allows for sufficient silence and support to deepen
individual practice.
Roy Maurer has practiced
Buddhist Meditation for over 30 years. He has a Master of
Divinity from Yale and spent several years living in Zen
Buddhist and Christian monastic setting and intensive
Vipassana meditation retreats.
