In this workshop Sarah will blend the soft and strong practices of yoga with an intention of cultivating an inner atmosphere of ease and vitality, qualities essential for compassion and insight to grow.

Saturday, August 18th, 11:00 am - 1 :30 pm:
We will explore the value of interweaving yin and yang practices on the body, heart and mind, with a focus on developing our earth chi, creating strength and stability in the lower body. We also explore the Buddhist discipline of Mindfulness meditation as an attitude of non-distracted stability of attention. $65.

Saturday, August 18th, 3:30 pm - 6:00 pm:
Sarah will emphasize the cultivation of the subtle body both in a yin yoga practice, and in the seated position through pranayama. We will also explore how to envision living our lives with an abundance of loving-kindness with the practice of Maitri in a guided visualization. $65

Sunday, August 19th, 11:00 am - 2:00 pm:
Sarah will emphasize compassion, exploring ways we might practice the art of moving toward rather than away from that which we usually seek to avoid, learning to loosen our self grasping tendencies while softening our patterns of resistance. When we bring compassion (karuna) toward our habits of aversion, we cultivate the capacity to meet all of life wholeheartedly. We will also practice backbends in both yin and yang styles (receptive and active), opening the chest area both energetically and physically. $75

This workshop is suitable for anyone with at least one year experience in yoga with some understanding of the yin practice, either through reading Insight Yoga, going to a few yin yoga classes, or having seen Sarah’s dvd’s, Yin and Vinyasa, or Insight Yoga series. An interest in meditating is also required to attend. Sarah will give some meditation instruction as well as leading practice.

Sarah Powers
began teaching in 1987. She is the author and founder of Insight Yoga, which interweaves the insights and practices of Yoga, Buddhism, and Spiritual Psychology into an integral practice to enliven the body, heart and mind. Her yoga style blends both a Yin sequence of floor poses to enhance the meridian and organ systems, combined with a slow flow or Yang practice, influenced by Viniyoga, Ashtanga, Iyengar and QI Gong teachings. Sarah feels that enlivening the physical and pranic bodies, as well as learning to meet our emotional habits of contraction is paramount for preparing one to deepen and nourish insights into one's essential nature--a natural state of awareness. She draws from her studies in Transpersonal Psychology, as well as her in-depth training in the Vipassana, Tantric and Dzogchen practices of Buddhism. She is co-founder with her husband Ty of the Insight Yoga Institute, which offers international residential retreats to help practitioners integrate yoga, Buddhism and spiritual psychology into a skillful practice and offers YA 500 hour certification for yoga teachers: .
